DHL develops in-the-container stacking offering

   DHL Global Forwarding has unveiled its Double Decker solution, which allows users to stack freight inside standard 40-foot containers, leading to improved efficiency and less cargo damage.
   The program is currently available on DHL-owned containers through Danmar Lines on routes from Hong Kong to Germany and to Shanghai and the United States. Double Decker will soon be expanded to additional routes, according to a company press release.
   The solution involves a racking system soldered to the side wall of a container, and the double deck can be mounted at different heights. The platforms – there can be a maximum of nine – can each bear one ton of cargo. DHL is targeting this offering at shippers who need to bundle goods from multiple sources and ship them to a single location.
   “The DHL Double Decker is an alternative solution for customers that used to need two containers for non-stackable cargo, and now only need one,” DHL Global Forwarding’s Andreas Boedeker said in a statement. “That’s especially attractive for companies that run container optimization projects.” – Jon Ross
