DHL Express to hike rates in 2018

The Germany-based parcel carrier’s expedited shipping segment will raise rates by an average of 4.9 percent in the U.S. next year, according to a statement from the company.    DHL Express will implement a 4.9 percent general average price increase for U.S. account holders starting January 2018, they announced on Friday.
   The Germany-based parcel carrier’s expedited shipping segment stated that it “adjusts its prices annually, taking into account inflation, currency dynamics and other rising costs, such as expenses related to compliance with enhanced security regulations, in each of the more than 220 countries and territories that it serves.”
   The parcel carrier hiked rates by an average of 3.9 percent in Germany and 4.9 in the U.S. last year as well. Other carries have enacted similar rate increases for the holiday season, such as UPS establishing a new peak shipping charge during selected weeks in November and December 2017 for U.S. residential, large packages and packages over maximum limits.
