DHL extends freight security program to Cathay

DHL said Tuesday its global forwarding unit has signed a deal with Cathay Pacific Airways to increase security of high-value freight.

The program is aimed at air freight shipments of pharmaceutical, fashion or hi-tech products that are pre-alerted as requiring special loss prevention measures.

The security partnership between DHL Global Forwarding and Cathay requires the companies to share best practices in loss prevention against cargo crime. It also involves close communications with forwarders, airport authorities, law enforcement and customs.

'Stringent procedures will be implemented during the security check, including the verification of all associated information of the cargo, checking of inbound and outbound security seals, loading and unloading of cargoes, physical examination and CCTV monitoring,' DHL said. 'The cargo handling security measures in the partnership will be effective within the airport vicinity, as well as airport cargo terminals and warehouses within the airport compound.'

DHL Global Forwarding has entered into similar partnerships with air carriers in the United States, Europe and other parts of Asia. The partnership with Cathay Pacific is the third in Asia, following agreements with All Nippon Airways in Japan and Bangkok Flight Services in Thailand.
