DHL forwarding unit adds Tianjin/Mongolia rail link    DHL Global Forwarding has started a rail service connecting Tianjin with Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.
   The logistics giant said it is the only company offering scheduled services that navigate Mongolia's 'congested routes and complex customs processes.'
   The 30-day Genghis Khan Connection service, DHL said, will leverage Mongolia’s improving infrastructure to help shippers avoid peak season congestion at regional border towns and airports. The service is particularly targeted at the consumer goods, fashion and machines and spare parts sectors.
   “Despite having vast economic potential, Mongolia has suffered from limited routing options that include Russia and China for cargo from Europe, America and Asia,' said Kelvin Leung, chief executive officer of the North Asia Pacific for DHL Global Forwarding. 'This has led to unreliable delivery, seasonal congestion that can delay shipments by up to 21 days, as well as higher costs.”
   Mongolia’s gross domestic product grew nearly 10 percent in 2010, fueled by the opening of new mining areas. GDP growth by 2013 is projected to reach as 23 percent in 2013, based on the country's extensive natural resources, including oil, coal, copper, gold, silver, iron and phosphate.
