DHL Global Forwarding fights capacity shortages

DHL is working to secure long-term capacity on key trade lanes.    DHL Global Forwarding is working to secure long-term capacity on trade lanes where rates are climbing as a result of capacity tightness, especially lanes in the Asia-Pacific.
According to recent data, exports have ticked up during the third quarter by 4.4 percent, year-over-year. Trade activity in “Asia’s emerging markets rebounded from low growth in the first quarter of 2014 and have been on an upward trend ever since,” according to DHL.
Compared to 2013, in July 2014 Asia Pacific air freight carriers were registering a 7.1-percent rise in freight ton kilometers.
HSBC’s Manufacturing PMI shows “China, India, Korea and Taiwan expanded in August, with Taiwan signaling the strongest improvement since April 2011,” DHL stated. China market demand is picking up even though capacity supplies remain tight.
“As global trade picks up, fueled by spiking demands in technology, DHL is seeing customer volumes increase on many trade lanes, especially in Asia Pacific,” Roger Crook, chief executive officer of DHL of Global Forwarding, said. “In this scenario, where capacity is tightening and demand is rising, upward pressure on prices is virtually unavoidable. DHL’s capacity program is targeted to meet customers’ crucial shipping needs across all industry sectors against the backdrop of rising demand.”
