DHL keeps growing in India

   DHL Supply Chain announced that it will invest INR 650 million ($11.7 million) in its new 320,000-square-foot warehouse in Luhari, Delhi, anchored by Proctor & Gamble.
   The company is planning additional facilities in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Chennai in 2013.
   The new facility, and the forthcoming construction, is part of the INR 6.85 billion DHL pledged to invest in India last year to strengthen the logistics market. DHL has already built 350,000 square feet of warehouse space in Mumbai.
   The Luhari warehouse, DHL’s second multi-user site in the country, will give employees the ability to consolidate, store and redistribute shipments throughout the region. The facility features continuous loading docks, a state-of-the-art traffic management system and advanced handling equipment.
   DHL targeted Luhari for its second warehouse because of industrial growth around the city, according to officials. Its location near two major highways makes transportation to the western and southern parts of the country easier.
   “India is a significant market for us,” DHL’s Oscar de Bok said in a statement. “This facility is part of our ongoing investment in infrastructure development to keep pace with the rapid growth of the logistics market in this country. By setting up world class infrastructure in India we continue to meet the increasing logistics and warehousing needs of our customers enabling them to effectively expand their businesses.” – Jon Ross
