DHL recycles electronics in Australia

DHL has received approval from the Australian government to collect and recycle products on behalf of television and computer importers and domestic manufacturers.
Australia’s National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme aims to reduce the number of electronic products ending up in landfills, and will boost the recycling rate for these products from 17 percent in 2010 to 80 percent by 2021.
DHL’s service is on track to start in mid-2012, with access to services expanding across Australia by the end of 2013.
DHL has offered a similar service in the United Kingdom since 2003.
“We have proven systems for setting up approved collections points and encouraging people to drop off their unwanted equipment,” said Terry Ryan, chief executive officer in the South Pacific for DHL Supply Chain.
