DHL starts guaranteed LCL service from Bangkok    DHL on Wednesday said it would begin offering guaranteed weekly direct less than containerload services connecting Bangkok to Los Angeles, Hamburg and Tokyo through its in-house carrier Danmar Lines.
   The new service will allow shipments to arrive up to a week earlier than previously, the company said.
   'The launch of the new service taps into the key trade lanes for businesses in Thailand,' DHL said in a statement. 'The United States is Thailand's largest export market, with revenue for 2008 totaling over $20.2 billion, followed closely by Japan, which generated $20 billion, while Germany generated $3.2 billion in export revenue. In 2008, computers with accessories and parts were the top exports to the U.S. and Germany from Thailand, while the top exports to Japan were electronic integrated circuits, followed by computers and accessories.'
   DHL said it carries more than 97 percent of its total volume in-house. Since the start of 2009, DHL has started 10 other direct LCL services from China, Japan and India, including:
   ' Chennai to Felixstowe.
   ' Shenzhen to Hamburg, Genoa, Southampton, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Le Havre, and Vancouver.
   ' Tokyo and Yokohama to Chicago.
   'In the current economic climate, LCL services are in demand among customers seeking ways to ensure greater cost efficiencies for their shipping needs,' said Amadou Diallo, chief executive of DHL Global Forwarding, South Asia Pacific. 'The introduction of these new direct services underlines our efforts to reduce transit times for customers.'
