DHL starts U.S./Busan LCL services    DHL said Friday it has started less-than-containerload service from New York and Chicago to Busan, a service it says can shave up to three to five days off typical transit times between the regions.
   The new direct weekly LCL service is operated by Danmar Lines, the in-house carrier of DHL Global Forwarding. The weekly New York/Busan service, with an estimated 26-day transit time, offers greater flexibility and eliminates rail delays and rehandling of cargo in Los Angeles by moving directly from the Port of New York, DHL said. The Chicago/Busan weekly service, via the Port of Long Beach, eliminates rehandling of cargo utilizing intact containers.
   'We hope that the introduction of this service will serve as a catalyst to the expansion of small and medium-sized Korean companies by strengthening their supply chains along the U.S./South Korea trade lane while creating cost efficiencies,' said S.P. Song, country manager of DHL Global Forwarding South Korea.
   DHL previously started nine other direct LCL services from the United States in 2009 to meet increasing demand. From Busan DHL operates 10 direct LCL routes around the world.
