DHL to build $50 million hub in Tokyo

DHL will break ground this month in Tokyo on the 44,000-square-meter Sagamihara Logistics Center, a development that will spur $50 million in investment over the next 10 years, according to the express carrier.
The facility, which will increase DHL Supply Chain’s warehouse space in Japan by 20 percent, will be ready by March 2014.
DHL will lease the building for 10 years starting in April 2014.
The multi-user hub facility will be geared toward the consumer retail industry, including fashion and apparel, according to a DHL press release. The site is near the under-construction Metropolitan Inter-City Expressway and National Route No. 16, providing close access to the nation’s road infrastructure.
“With Asia’s influence becoming more and more evident in the world economy, the consumer retail industry is placing a growing emphasis on conquering the Asian market,” Victor Mok, chief executive officer of DHL Supply Chain North Asia, said in a statement. – Jon Ross
