DHL USA names Allen CEO

Deutsche Post AG has appointed Ken Allen as new chief executive officer for its DHL Express USA operations.

Allen, who since June 2006 has led DHL Express operations in eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, will replace Han Hickler, who will remain a member of the company global management board and work on strategic projects.

Allen, 52, is credited by the company with turning around DHL’s Canadian operations between 2004 and 2006. He also acted as chief financial officer of Asia for DHL during the currency and export crisis that hit the region in 1997 and helping the company improve its market standing, and investing in new facilities and infrastructure during the period to help it benefit from growth today.

“He has got quite an impressive record in leading turnaround situations and creating very detailed plans,” said Silje Skogstad, a spokesman for the company. “We’ve said the current situation is not satisfactory as it is and we are looking at ways for improving things for our shareholders and customers.” She said a plan is expected to be in place by the end of May.

Allen also apparently has a sense of humor. The company-supplied C.V notes he is “married with four children and a dog. He is a Jack of all sports and master of none. His golf handicap is higher than his IQ.”
