DHS completes northern border RPM installs    The United States now has complete coverage of northern border ports of entry with drive-through radiation portal monitors designed for commercial vehicles, the Department of Homeland Security announced Thursday. The radiation portal monitors can also be used to check automobiles for the presence of radiation.
   A department progress report issued last summer indicated that 98 percent of all trucks arriving at the northern border get checked for radiation as part of the effort to prevent terrorists from smuggling a nuclear or radiological weapon, or its components, into the country for an attack.
   The department's border agency, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, is now set up to screen 100 percent of trucks for radiation. To date, smaller ports of entry were without the technology.
   Radiation portal monitors also alarm for naturally occurring radiation, which requires a second round of checks by Customs officers to determine whether the cargo poses any danger.
