DNDO tests radiation detection at truck weigh stations The Department of Homeland Security said it completed a full-scale exercise testing radiological and nuclear threat detection and response capabilities on interstate highways in the Southeast.
   The exercise, called Southern Exposure, took place from Oct. 23 through Nov. 5 and involved placing radiation portal monitors at commercial vehicle inspection stations in nine states and the Port of Charleston, S.C.
      The pilot was managed by the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office, which will analyze the results as it seeks to expand the detection capability to other regions of the country.
   The main focus of the exercise was to help states and localities refine and coordinate their processes for resolving alarms triggered by fixed or mobile radiation detection machines.
