DNV opens maritime academy in Taipei

The classification society Det Norske Veritas on Tuesday opened a maritime academy in Taipei, Taiwan, its fifth in China.

The new academy will provide the maritime industry with technical expertise by running regular courses for ship owner technical staff, superintendents, designers and shipbuilders, DNV said in a statement.

Each year 5,000 students take courses and seminars run by DNV academies to help gain qualifications and keep updated on technology in a broad range of topics in the maritime field.

Since the first academy was established in Dalian in June 2005, more than 1,500 participants have been trained through DNV's academy network in China, including Dalian, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
