Mark Griffis, of Eastman, Ga., was convicted by a jury in U.S. District Court in Augusta in June of conspiracy to falsify records with intent to impede the proper administration of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Griffis was authorized to perform Department of Transportation medical examinations. However, an investigation by the DOT’s Office of Inspector General found he routinely signed medical examiner’s certificates and medical examination reports for commercial driver’s license holders without ever examining the drivers.
After his conviction, Griffis, who was indicted in February, was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to await sentencing.
