Dole buys new reefer units

Dole buys new reefer units    Thermo King Corp. said Tuesday that the fruit giant Dole Food Company will buy Magnum reefer containers as replacement units to the Dole reefer fleet.
   The Magnum containers use scroll compressor technology, which allows for faster temperature pull-downs and lower power consumption, Thermo King said.
   The new units will be used for bananas imported from Central America.
   Steve Bryant, Thermo King's global director, cold chain technologies, said Thermo King's Magnum consumes almost 30 percent less power than other container refrigeration units, yet produces more watts of refrigeration, allowing shippers to save on both fuel costs and charges for electrical power at Central American ports and terminals.
