Domestic air carries see cargo rise in August

American, United and Delta report revenue tonnage increases.    Domestic airlines saw increased cargo activity in August, contributing to what has been a better year for cargo tonnage than 2013.
   United Airlines reported Tuesday it experienced a 25.8-percent, year-over-year, increase in its cargo revenue ton miles in August, flying 204.2 million miles during the month.  
   So far this year, revenue ton miles are up 11 percent compared to 2013. Through eight months, United has flown more than 1.6 billion miles.
   American Airlines also released its numbers Tuesday, reporting a 1.7-percent rise in tonnage for August to 184.2 million miles. On the year, American’s activity has increased by 8.2 percent, when compared to the first eight months of 2013, to more than 1.53 billion miles.  
   Delta Air Lines recently said it flew 5.4-percent more cargo ton miles in August 2014 than in August 2013, ending the month at 213.6 million miles. For the year, Delta’s cargo tonnage is up by 1.1 percent.
