Dominican authorities get record drug seizure from container

Authorities in the Dominican Republic said Monday they seized a record 4,960 pounds of cocaine discovered in a container at Puerto Caucedo.

Dogs trained to detect drugs discovered the cocaine, the largest amount ever discovered in the 20-year history of the Dominican Republic's 20-year-old drug control agency, according to a report in the Miami Herald.

The container had originated at Puerto Cabello, Venezuela and had also been at a stop in Puerto Rico before being delivered to Puerto Caucedo last week, agents said.
