Dominican-Puerto Rico ferry may swap ports An executive from Caribbean Ferries, which operates a busy ferry service between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, said the company is considering a port change in Puerto Rico from Mayaguez to either Ponce or San Juan.
   According to a report in Dominican Today, Caribbean Ferries Vice President Maribel Mas Rivera said the Mayaguez Port Commission has proposed the ferry's operating space be reduced to only 3,000 square feet as the port seeks to entice new cruise business.
   She said the company is already in discussions with officials in both Ponce and San Juan.
   The ferry carries 145,000 passengers, 16,000 vehicles and 13,000 containers a year between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
   Meanwhile, the Associated Press report quoted Mayaguez Port Commissioner President Dennis Bechara as saying negotiations with Caribbean Ferries are ongoing and that he did not want to negotiate a contract through the press.
