Donjon starts shipbuilding, repair on Lake Erie
Donjon Marine Co. has announced the formation of its new shipbuilding and repair operation on Lake Erie in Pennsylvania.
Through an agreement with the Erie-Western Pennsylvania Port Authority and the acquisition of assets from the former Erie Shipbuilding, Donjon will engage in shipbuilding and repair on its 44-arce site.
The shipbuilding and repair facility adds to Donjon's extensive menu of marine services, including dredging, salvage, heavy lift and towing.
The Lake Erie site is equipped with a 1,250-foot by 120-foot by 22-foot dry dock, which makes it the largest shipyard of its kind on the Great Lakes. The facility also includes 4,000 feet of pier space and more than 200,000 square feet of production area, with fully enclosed fabrication and assembly buildings housing automated cutting, fabrication and coating equipment sufficient to serve everything from deck barges to oceangoing vessels, the company said.
