DOT shuts down Demco

The U.S. Transportation Department’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) ordered Denny Mekenye, a Texas-based company doing business as Demco Express and Demco Trans Inc., to immediately stop all transportation offerings and services because of serious safety violations that pose an immediate hazard to public health and safety.

The FMCSA said it uncovered multiple federal safety violations concerning drug testing, driver qualifications, driver hour-of-service compliance, and other record keeping issues over the course of its investigation.

Charges against Demco include falsifying drivers’ record of duty status so drivers could operate with suspended and revoked commercial licenses; a lack of controlled substance testing; and allowing drivers with multiple suspensions on their licenses to operate for the company.
