DP World grows volumes 2.4% in 2015

The container terminal operator posted a cargo throughout of 61.7 million TEUs at its container terminals in 2015, a 2.4 percent increase from 2014 on a like-for-like basis.

Container terminal operator DP World handled 61.7 million TEUs at its container terminals in 2015, a 2.4 percent increase from 2014 on a like-for-like basis (not including divestments and new capacity).
DP World said the growth was largely driven by its terminals in Europe and the United Arab Emirates.
At the container terminal operator’s terminals in the Asia Pacific and India Subcontinent division, gross volumes totaled 28.3 million TEUs for 2015; followed by its terminals in the Europe, the Middle East and Africa division, where gross volumes totaled 26 million TEUs; and the Americas and Australia division, where volumes totaled 7.4 million TEUs.
Looking ahead, DP World expects to open its third berth at London Gateway in mid-2016, which will add 600,000 TEUs of capacity, DP World Group Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem said. In addition, the extra 2 million TEUs at the terminal in Jebel Ali will be operational in the second half of 2016, Sulayem said. The container terminal operator is also set to add capacity in Rotterdam, Mumbai, Prince Rupert and Yarimca in 2016.
