During the month, on-time performance for the 10 trade lanes covered in Drewry’s Carrier Performance Insight report rose to 76 percent, a 4.1 point improvement from April.
Although eight of these ten routes experienced month-over-month increases in on-time performance, the Asia-Africa and Asia-South America routes had declines.
Meanwhile, the Transpacific trade felt the largest boost in on-time performance from April, rising 9.8 points to 76.3 percent.
In terms of carrier performance, OOCL of Japan was the most dependable container shipping carrier in April with an on-time average of 81.1 percent, followed by Taiwanese liner carriers Wan Hai (81.01 percent) and Evergreen Line (80.3 percent).
“Service reliability is on a steadily improving path and is close to the heights reached in the second-half of 2015,” Drewry Supply Chain Research Senior Manager Simon Heaney said. “We expect the trend to continue through the next few months as carriers put reliability close to the top of their marketing.”
