Dubai firm plans logistics park in South Carolina

Jafza, an affiliate of port developer Dubai Ports World, said it has acquired 1,300 acres of land in Orangeburg Couty, S.C., where it plans to build a logistics and business park for light manufacturing, warehousing and distribution facilities. The purchase had been rumored for weeks.

Jafza, like DP World, is part of the Dubai World group of companies and operates the Jebel Ali Free Zone.

Jafza said it planned total investment of about $600 million in a facility that would create 8,000 to 10,000 jobs over the next decade, and attract private investment of about $1.2 billion.

The site is about 50 miles west of Charleston, along Interstate 95 and a CSX rail line.

Jafza said the busness park will serve the ports of Savannah, Charleston, Wilmington and Norfolk.
