Dubai selects program manager for logistics park in South Carolina Jafza South Carolina has selected Applied Technology & Management, Inc. (ATM) to provide program management and development support services for the first phase of a new 1,300-acre logistics, distribution, and manufacturing center it is building about 50 miles west of Charleston.
   Located near the town of Santee in Orangeburg County, S.C., the developers expect the park will create 8,000 to 10,000 jobs over the next decade and attract private investment of about $1.2 billion.
   Jafza South Carolina is a subsidiary of Jafza International, one of the Dubai World group of companies, which operates the Jebel Ali Free Zone.
   “This project is the cornerstone of Jafza’s venture into the United States,” says Chuck Heath, Jafza senior vice president. “One critical element is to make South Carolina part of a wider network of logistics and distribution parks.”
   ATM will initially be responsible for assisting Jafza with the implementation of key environmental, land, market, and business planning as well as transportation and engineering studies.
   The project will benefit “not only Orangeburg County, S.C., but the southeastern U.S. as a whole,” said Tom Schanze, the president and chief executive officer of ATM.
