DYE JOINS FEDERAL MARITIME COMMISSIONS

DYE JOINS FEDERAL MARITIME COMMISSIONS    Rebecca F. Dye started in her new role as commissioner for the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission on Jan. 15.
   Dye was nominated by the Bush administration to serve the remainder of a five-year term, expiring June 30, 2005. She was sworn in by former FMC Chairman and current Labor Secretary Elaine Chao on Dec. 19.
   Prior to her appointment to the commission, Dye served 15 years as a committee counsel in the House of Representatives. From 1995 to 2002, she served as counsel to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and from 1987 to 1995, she was minority counsel to the House Merchant Marine and Fisheries Committee.
   Her work experience also includes assignments with the Maritime Administration and Coast Guard.
   Dye said she looks forward to working with shippers, common carriers and ocean transportation intermediaries to ensure a fair market in which to operate. She will also seek to eliminate unfair shipping practices by foreign governments and to protecting cruise passengers against undue financial risk.
