The European Commission has approved the acquisition of Safmarine
Container Lines N.V. by Maersk Line.
The takeover, announced in February, includes the liner activities of
Safmarine, Safbank and CMB Transport, covering a total of 10 trades. SCL
operates about 50 vessels and 80,000 containers.
The EC said that the acquisition will not harm competition on the trade
operated by the carriers.
