EC PUBLISHES GUIDE ON TRANSPORT LEGISLATION

   The Transport Directorate of the European Commission has published a detailed guide on European transport legislation for air, maritime and land transport.
   The guide on current regulations in transport outlines transport laws, with subsequent amendments, giving detailed information on their objectives, scope and key elements.
   Some transport statistics are also included.
   The EC said that the guide was prepared as the European Union prepares to negotiate with other European countries that have applied to join the union.
   Negotiations are currently being held with the first wave of applicant countries: Estonia, Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Cyprus. The basic principle of the negotiations is that all the applicant countries must accept existing EU law, the EC said.
