ECT Euromax Rotterdam terminal to offer empty container services

Dubbed the Empty Transferium, the service will offer on-site inspection, cleaning, minor repairs and pre-trip inspection for both dry and refrigerated (reefer) containers at Port of Rotterdam’s ECT Euromax terminal in Maasvlakte starting in 2018.    Terminal operators Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam (ECT) and United Waalhaven Terminals (UWT) and refrigerated (reefer) service company Smith Holland will launch an empty depot service for both refrigerated containers and regular containers at the ECT Euromax terminal at the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam. 
   Dubbed the Empty Transferium, the service will offer transport to and from the Transferium, inspection and cleaning of the container, minor repairs to both the container and the cooling system of the reefer container and pre-trip inspection (PTI). The service targets deepsea shipping lines at the Port of Rotterdam by handling the containers there at the deepsea terminal, thus allowing for faster turnaround time, the port said.  
   “The cooperation between UWT, Smith Holland and ECT guarantees the input of knowledge and expertise. All three parties contribute their own specific know-how regarding all operations at the Empty Transferium. To ECT, the Empty Transferium constitutes a next step in its service provision,” said Leo Ruijs, CEO of ECT.
   The launch of Empty Transferium is planned for the second quarter of 2018, the port said.
