EGL Eagle become EPA SmartWay participant

EGL Eagle become EPA SmartWay participant    EGL Eagle Global Logistics has joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay Transport Partnership, a program that will team EGL with participating companies from several transport modes that use practices intended to reduce greenhouse gases and other forms of air pollution.
   'As a trusted partner with the EPA, EGL is committed to enhancing the understanding of vendors, contractors, customers and the general public on EPA SmartWay initiatives to reduce greenhouse gases in our environment,” said Ashley Herren, EGL’s corporate safety manager. “EGL and our employees are personally committed to working towards a cleaner environment.'
   EGL, a Houston-based logistics services company, has offices in Jacksonville, Orlando, Miami and Tampa.
   EGL said its will work to educate its owner-operators to route freight through other EPA SmartWay Partner logistics carriers whenever possible. To calculate the success of the program, EGL plans to monitor carrier volume reports and provide metrics to develop action plans for improvement.
   The federal program includes carriers, logistics service companies and shippers. Shippers in the program commit to move at least 50 percent of their freight with SmartWay participants. Most of the member carriers offer highway transportation services, but SmartWay also includes rail and ocean carriers.
