EGL special committee still examining options A special committee organized by the board of Houston-based Eagle Global Logistics said it would continue 'investigating strategic alternatives,' regardless of whether Jim Crane, the company's chairman, chief executive officer and largest shareholder, comes back with a new takeover offer.
   The original bid by Crane and EGL's senior management stalled last week as General Atlantic, the private equity firm backing the deal, withdrew its support after an unexpected shortfall in EGL's fourth-quarter results.
   Crane informed the special committee last week that he intends to seek alternative equity sources to replace General Atlantic and present a revised offer to the board.
   'There can be no assurance that any revised offer from Mr. Crane or any offer from a third party will be made, or that the terms of any offer received, if any, will be acceptable to the Special Committee, that any agreement will be executed or that this or any other transaction will be approved or consummated,' the special committee said in a statement.
