EGL TO OPEN OWN OFFICES IN SOUTH AFRICA
EGL, which operates under the name EGL Eagle Global Logistics, said it has sold its 20-percent equity stake in Renfreight Circle (Proprietary) Ltd. to the Bidvest Group Ltd., and will open its own offices in South Africa in June.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. EGL will continue to use Renfreight as its agent in South Africa until it opens its own offices there on June 10.
Pamela Cornish will serve as managing director of EGL's South Africa operations. She worked for Expeditors for nine years, responsible for sales and operations in Johannesburg.
Renfreight was started in April 1998 with four shareholders — Safren, Amic, Barlows and Circle International, which EGL acquired in October.
