EGL’S NET REVENUE RISE

EGL’S NET REVENUE RISE    EGL Inc., a Houston-based provider of transportation and supply chain management services that operates under the name Eagle Global Logistics, reported first-quarter net income of $2.8 million, compared to a loss of $3.9 million in the first quarter of 2002.
   Revenues increased 16 percent to $484 million. Net revenues rose 9 percent to $167.
   In North America, revenues rose 4 percent to $252 million and net revenues increased $3.6 million. Operating income in this sector for the first quarter was $327,000, up from an operating loss of $5.3 million in the year-earlier period.
   EGL’s revenues outside of North America, for Europe-Middle East-Africa, Asia/Pacific, and Latin America, increased 33 percent to $231 million.
   “Our overseas operations are leveraging our North American network,” said Jim Crane, chief executive officer of EGL.
   “Pricing pressures resulting from our customers’ focus on costs, as well as higher surcharges levied by airlines and shipping lines, are putting pressure on our net revenue margins,” Crane said.
