Egypt joins CSI    Egypt committed on Thursday to join the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Container Security Initiative and use U.S.-loaned large-scale radiation detection equipment as part of the U.S.-led effort to prevent terrorists from smuggling nuclear weapons or components that could be used in an attack.
   CSI is operational in 44 ports worldwide where CBP officers analyze shipping data and request foreign customs authorities to conduct examinations of containers before they are loaded on a vessel for the United States.
   Under the Megaports Initiative, the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration loans radiation portal monitors to help governments meet CSI requirements for using non-intrusive inspection technology. A handful of countries have received equipment and training from the United States so far.
