Emirates launch customer for African joint venture

   Emirates SkyCargo is the first customer of the newly formed joint venture between Africa Flight Services and SA Airlink, and the carrier will operate in both Johannesburg and Captetown.
   Malcolm Tonkin, a 21-year industry veteran, has been appointed general manager of the joint venture.  
   To support the joint venture, AFS has opened a 3,000-square-meter cargo facility at Johannesburg’s airport and a 2,340-square-foot development in Cape Town.
   “Africa Flight Services is a new brand for our expansion plans in Africa,” Barry Nassberg, chief operating officer of AFS’ parent company, Worldwide Flight Services, said in a statement. “This is an important and growing market for us, and we want to give it a dedicated focus, but with the ability to draw on all the expertise and resources of the WFS global network.”
   He added AFS officials are still on the hunt for more local partnerships and joint ventures. – Jon Ross
