The contract essentially allows Emirates to integrate its back office systems with the GT Nexus portal, allowing Web-based, paperless transactions with shipper and forwarder customers.
'We selected GT Nexus because they are one of the key technology standards for the ocean industry,' said Romi Kaushal, chief executive officer of Emirates Shipping Line. 'This will help us better serve our customers, many of who have already standardized on GT Nexus for ocean freight management.'
GT Nexus said the Emirates' deal is the 20th the company has signed in 2009.
Hong Kong-based Emirates is the world's 46th-biggest shipping line, according to maritime news service Alphaliner, with eight vessels and a fleet capacity of 22,500 TEUs.
