ENGEL APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF BRENNTAG AG

   Klaus Engel will take over as chairman of Brenntag AG, the chemical logistics subsidiary of Stinnes, replacing Rients Visser who will retire.

   Engel was named vice president of corporate development at Stinnes in 1998, and played a major role in preparing the company for its initial public offering. He was appointed to Brenntag's board of management in October 1999, and has served as vice chairman for the past year.

   In a related issue, Jan A. Rompes, a member of Brenntag's board of management since 1996, has stepped down by mutual agreement.
