Envirotainer gets FAA approval for ULD

The Federal Aviation Administration has approved Envirotainer’s RKN e1 unit load device for use on airlines governed by the agency.
Envirotainer said there are still approvals and processes to iron out, but that the containers should be available within six months. In light of the full approval, the company said it is “investing heavily in our fleet expansion” in order to meet demand. The company added that its facility near Stockholm is currently running at double speed compared to years past in order to get the devices to market.
The RKN e1, which is already in use around the world, is shaped like a dry-ice container but uses compressor cooling and electric heating in order to maintain an internal temperature between 0 degrees Celsius to 20 degrees Celsius, according to an Envirotainer fact sheet.
“This marks an important step in Envirotainer’s strive to offer all potential customers a heating and cooling container in the temperature controlled supply chain, as well as the flexibility to chose their preferred carrier,” Simon Angeldorff, Envirotainer’s chief executive officer, said in a statement.
