Esco Marine to scrap 3 U.S. government cargo vessels

Esco Marine to scrap 3 U.S. government cargo vessels The U.S. Maritime Administration has signed contracts totaling $1.14 million with Esco Marine of Brownsville, Texas, to scrap three obsolete cargo ships.
   Two of the vessels, Cape Catoche and Cape Carthage, are in the James River Reserve Fleet site at Fort Eustis in Viriginia. The third vessel, Del Viento, is at the Beaumont Reserve Fleet in Texas.
   The Cape Catoche and Cape Carthage are both breakbulk vessels built at the Avondale shipyard in Alabama in 1963. The Del Viento, also a breakbulk vessel, was built at the Ingalls shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss., in 1968.
   These vessels are part of the U.S. government's National Defense Reserve Fleet. When the ships become obsolete, MarAd arranges for their disposal.
