ESCO TRANSPORTATION PLANS DRAYAGE ACQUISITION BINGE
ESCO Transportation Co., a publicly traded intermodal drayage company, has announced a five-year plan to acquire intermodal drayage and short-haul truckload companies in key U.S. intermodal markets.
ESCO's first acquisition was Minnesota-based Quantum Transportation Inc., which operates from Shawkopee, Minn., serving the Minneapolis marketplace, as well as a facility in Ripon, Calif., serving the Modesto and Stockton, Calif. markets.
“Today’s drayage and short-haul markets are extremely fragmented, with very poor communications and management of equipment in many corridors throughout the intermodal supply chain,” said Robert J. Weaver, president and chief operating officer of ESCO. His company's goal is to increase emphasis on information technologies, along with consolidation, to better manage drayage assets.
