Europe/Asia rates drag APL revenue in June

Singapore-based NOL, parent of liner carrier APL, said in an operational update that its container shipping revenue per 40-foot equivalent unit fell 13 percent in June compared to the same month in 2010.

The carrier ascribed the fall in revenue to 'lower rates in the Asia/Europe trade lane.' The line's average revenue per FEU dropped to $2,513 from June 4 to July 1. For the year, average revenue per FEU is $2,570, 3 percent lower than in the same period in 2010.

APL's volume, meanwhile, increased 5 percent in June to 232,700 TEUs, due to higher volumes carried in the intra-Asia trade, the line said. For the year APL volume is up 8 percent, at nearly 1.5 million TEUs.
