European logistics company expands use of Descartes road compliance tool

Gist will use the Descartes Smartanalysis tool across Europe after successful use in UK monitoring driver telematics.    The logistics and trade compliance software provider Descartes Systems Group said Tuesday that the supply chain services provider Gist will expand its use of the Descartes Smartanalysis product across its European road transport operations.
   Smartanalysis is a cloud-based compliance management solution that uses and analyzes tachograph information to track critical elements of a truck and driver’s journey such as speed and hours of service.
   “We’ve been using Descartes Smartanalysis for over four years in the UK with more than 1,000 heavy goods vehicles and 2,000 drivers,” said Ken Clarke, head of transport operations in Europe for Gist. “Before using Descartes, managing compliance for our large and widely dispersed fleet in Europe was a time-consuming and labor-intensive operation for Gist. By extending our use of Smartanalysis to include the Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Czech Republic, France and Scandinavia, we can drive additional efficiencies in our business.”
   The European Union is continuing its efforts to harmonize the enforcement of legislation regarding tachograph data and drivers’ hours across member states to promote road safety and ensure a level competitive landscape between commercial road transport operators, Descartes added.
