Evergreen says ship did not run aground

Evergreen Line said a Coast Guard report last week that one of its ships had lost power and run aground while leaving the Port of Savannah was inaccurate.

Barbara Yeninas, a spokeswoman for the company, said that when one of the cylinders on the 4,230-TEU containership Ever Radiant overheated, the ship dropped anchor so that crew could repair the engine, but that the ship was always under its own power.

The ship did not go aground, Yeninas said, and two tugs that came to the ship’s assistance were used to escort it to an anchorage area offshore where the ship stayed until the repair was completed by the crew. There was no environmental impact and the ship is once again plying its normal trade route.
