Evergreen, Zim adding New York to Asia/U.S. East Coast service

Zim Integrated Shipping Services and Evergreen Line are replacing calls at Wilmington, N.C., with New York on their joint weekly Asia/U.S. East Coast AUX service.

The last vessel to call at Wilmington will be made by the 3,428-TEU “Ital Garland” on May 6. The 4,250-TEU “Zim Livorno” will start the new rotation when it departs Qingdao on April 9 with its first call at New York on May 7. The change will also see Savannah become the last U.S. port out on the service.

Evergreen Line is the unified common trade name the Evergreen Group is adopting from May 1 to cover all of its previous global carrier operations, Evergreen Marine Corp. (Taiwan) Ltd., Italia Marittima S.p.A., Hatsu Marine Ltd., and Evergreen Marine (Hong Kong) Ltd.

The AUX uses nine ships averaging about 3,500 TEUs, although Evergreen is phasing in larger 5,090 TEU ships. The revised rotation will be Qingdao; Shanghai; Ningbo; Cristobal, Panama; Kingston, Jamaica; Port Everglades, Fla.; New York; Savannah, Ga.; Cristobal; Kingston; and back to Qingdao.

Emirates Shipping Line also takes space on the AUX.
