Ex Panalpina boss Sidler resurfaces at EGL

Bruno Sidler, former president and chief executive officer of Swiss forwarding and logistics group Panalpina, has joined Houston-based Eagle Global Logistics as president of its Europe, Middle East and Africa region.

Sidler resigned from Panalpina at the start of 2006 after an eight-year tenure as the company's boss, following the discovery of a booking fraud scandal involving a manager at the company's air freight unit. Sidler was not implicated in the fraud but did know the manager personally.

'We are confident that Bruno's personal success and industry expertise will greatly contribute to leading the strategic development globally, particularly in Europe, the Middle East and the African regions and strengthen our existing network, which has some of the best and most knowledgeable leaders in the industry,” said Jim Crane, EGL's chairman and CEO.

Crane is heading a $1.2 billion takeover offer for EGL together with other senior company managers and private equity firm General Atlantic LLC.
