Executive Moves: AMI, Kalmar, VARGO and Wen-Parker Logistics

Air Menzies International gains new CEO; Kalmar appoints senior vice president, global terminal operators; VARGO hires systems engineer; and Wen-Parker Logistics adds new member to its board of directors.

   United Kingdom-based Menzies Aviation appointed Jonathan Clark as CEO of its neutral airfreight and express wholesaler subsidiary, Air Menzies International (AMI), effective January 2018. Clark has over 30 years of experience in the airfreight sector, most recently at Cargolux Airlines, where he has been serving as Africa director since 2016. He has also held positions with MSAS Cargo International (now part of DHL), Lufthansa, Qatar Airways and DB Schenker.

   Kalmar, a subsidiary of Finnish cargo-handling equipment manufacturer Cargotec, appointed Guenter Schmidmeir to serve as senior vice president, global terminal operators, effective Nov. 1. Guenter, who has 20 years of experience in the port and terminals industry, most recently worked at Navis, where he had been leading the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region since 2008 as vice president and general manager, EMEA.

   VARGO, a material-handling systems developer based in Hillard, Ohio, has hired Eric Vander Zee to serve as a systems engineer. Vander Zee, who will be based out of VARGO’s Walker, Mich. office, was hired for his experience in engineering high-end material handling systems. Prior to joining VARGO, Vander Zee worked as a systems engineer at TGY Systems Inc., where he served as an integrated material handling system engineer, developed detailed engineering and systems designs, and oversaw system operation integrity. Vander Zee also worked as a product engineer at Frost Inc., where he managed the engineering department and engineered new material handling products for clients. In addition, he has experience working as a product development engineer.

   Wen-Parker Logistics (WPL), a global freight forwarder and supply chain solutions provider headquartered in Elmont, N.Y., has added Anthony Romano to its board of directors as an independent director. In his 20-plus years in retail management, Romano has held CEO, president and board positions at Destination Maternity Corp. and Charming Shoppes Inc., along with executive leadership positions at Ascena Retail Group, Inc. and ANN Inc. Romano started his career as a CPA with the predecessor of Ernst and Young. He is currently a member of the board of directors and finance committee of Benco Dental Supply Co.
