Exel acquires Fujitsu’s logistics arm

Exel acquires Fujitsu’s logistics arm

Exel, the U.K.-based international logistics service provider, has entered into an agreement of principle to acquire the logistics subsidiary of the Japanese group Fujitsu.

Under an outsourcing agreement, Exel-owned Fujitsu Logistics Ltd. will continue to provide logistics services to Fujitsu companies in Japan. All staff will be transferred to Exel.

The acquisition will triple the size of Exel’s current operations in Japan.

John Allan, chief executive of Exel, said that the acquisition “will provide an excellent platform from which Exel can achieve the growth it is seeking in the region.” He cited Fujitsu Logistics’ nationwide distribution and service centers, and its extensive road transport operations and skilled workforce.

Fujitsu and Exel will continue discussions on the details of the agreement, which they expect to conclude later this year.
