Exel to build large Laredo DC

  Exel, the North American contract logistics unit of DHL Supply Chain, said it will build a 250,000-square-foot distribution center in Laredo, Texas, to serve as a hub for shipping across the U.S.-Mexico border.
   Officials expect to complete the multiclient facility, which will meet the highest security and environmental certifications, by July 2012.
   The site has capacity for expansion.
  Capabilities will include comprehensive managed transportation services, a large trailer yard, warehousing, cross-docking, U.S. and Mexico customs brokerage, drayage, bonded warehousing, and value-added services such as configuration. A bilingual computer system that interfaces with customers will track inventory, facilitate and exchange documentation and connect into the customs clearance process.
   Exel-DHL calls its integrated supply chain service Logistics Without Borders, reinforcing the idea that the company can take out complexity from cross-border logistics and transportation by combining all aspects of freight handling with a single provider.
