Net revenues for the Seattle-based logistics provider rose 15 percent to $147.8 million, while operating income rose 16 percent to $32.2 million. Revenue fell 3 percent to $390.7 million, due to a decline in volume and softness in rates for air freight moving from the Far East to North America.
Air freight revenues fell 9.5 percent to $214.1 million, while ocean freight revenues rose 5.7 percent to $123.9 million and customs brokerage and import services improved 3.6 percent to $52.6 million.
Peter J. Rose, chairman and chief executive officer, confirmed that the second-quarter results included a 6-cent-per share (about $3.1 million) after-tax loss related to the loss of Ford's brokerage business.
For the first six months of 2000, net earnings rose 36 percent to $42.8 million. Net revenues rose 20 percent to $293.5 million, while operating income climbed 30 percent to $63.2 million. Revenue rose 6 percent to $796.0 million.
