FAA levies fines for HazMat violations

Amazon is one of three companies that sent dangerous goods via FedEx or UPS.    The Federal Aviation Administration has proposed $227,500 in fines against three companies for violation of hazardous materials rules.
   Amazon has 30 days to respond to its proposed fine of $91,000 for routing a box containing caulk smoother through UPS. Workers at the integrator’s Louisville facility found that four ounces of the eight-ounce, alcohol-based liquid had leaked out of the box.
   The FAA is also awaiting a response from Villa Rica, Georgia-based Harrison Contracting Co. and its $73,500 fine for trying to ship a can of paint and a can of lacquer thinner via FedEx. The paint was discovered when it leaked from its package.
   Texas-based Red Dot Corp. has asked for a meeting with FAA officials to discuss a $63,000 fine for trying to ship two containers of aerosol primer.
